Report:
The Webinar was held on 22nd August, 2020 in the benign presence of the dignitaries including Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, Chairperson, CNA Group and Former Chairperson, IEEE Delhi Section. Prof. R. K. Vyas, National President, CSI welcomed all the invited guests and participants. Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM), New Delhi also addressed the session and discussed the background note of conducting such Webinars through virtual platforms. He emphasized that these webinars act as networking tools to connect people from across the world and help them to adapt to a New Normal life, a new ecosystem caused by COVID-19. He also discussed the five phases of COVID-19 i.e. Denial, Anger, Bargain, Depression and Acceptance and motivated the participants to directly move to Acceptance phase from Bargain phase without going into Depression phase, which is also one of the objectives of these weekly webinar series. He also motivated participants to keep learning continuously regardless of all disruptions. He also discussed the background of the Edge computing, the topic of the webinar. The webinar was blessed to have inaugural address by Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay giving a brief background of the all these webinars, in collaboration will all the premiere professional societies.
Mr. Vijay Anand, Assistant Vice President, Altran, Chennai, was the lead speaker. He first introduced the topic to the participants. He discussed and showcased with live examples that Edge Computing, one of the emerging paradigm, represents a new trend to improve the overall network efficiency by delivering low-latency, energy consumption, bandwidth-efficient and resilient services to IoT users that allow computation near to the data sources which is at edge of network and additional benefits like cyber security / physical security, privacy, interoperability as the processing occurs close to edge. He also discussed that with Edge Computing adoption coupled with a cloud strategy is set to increase, where greater proportion of IoT applications would run on the edge. Webinar also had discussion on current trends in the Edge IoT ecosystem, Edge Node / Edge Gateway, Industrial Challenges, Emerging technologies & protocols, Smart Factory, Critical use cases, Evolving standardization bodies, Evolving hardware platform and open source platforms for software development.
The session concluded with Question & Answer round where participants willingly asked their queries, followed by a concluding remarks by Prof. Ajay P. Thakare, Chairman, TPPC, IETE, New Delhi. Prof. M. N. Hoda gave his heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Vijay Anand for his valuable and detailed session. He also thanked all the participants and panellist for giving their precious time in attending this webinar and making all the webinars hosted by BVICAM, a huge success. The webinar attracted huge participation from across the world.
