Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute’s of Computer Applications and Management, New Delhi and IEEE Consultants Network Affinity Group, IEEE Industry Relations, IEEE Inter Society Relations & IIPC and AICTE organized an Invited Talk on “Natural language Processing” on 18th Sep 2019. The honorable speaker of the talk was Er. Subhankar Pal, Assistant Vice President (AVP) Research & Innovation, Altran India Pvt. Ltd.
The event begun with the welcome address given by Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director, BVICAM. The audience was willing to know about the next generation of computers we are moving into, the generation of Artificial Intelligence, challenges involved and NLP (Natural Language Processing). NLP is a subfield of computer science and artificial intelligence concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages, in particular how to program computers to process and analyze large amounts of natural language data.
The talk started by introducing the audience with the current scenario of how we are using smart devices especially voice controlled devices which interact with humans and perform the expected task. Processing of Natural Language is required when we want an intelligent system like robot to perform as per our instructions, when we want to hear decision from a dialogue based clinical expert system, etc. Er. Subhankar Pal, in his enlightening talk also discussed the two main components of NLP – NLU and NLG. Natural Language Understanding involves Mapping the given input in natural language into useful representations and Analyzing different aspects of the language. Whereas Natural Language Generation is the process of producing meaningful phrases and sentences in the form of natural language from some internal representation. It involves text and sentence planning and text realization.
The session concluded by interacting with audience and answering their questions. The session was attended by all faculties and students of BVICAM. Also present were Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay - IEEE Delhi Section and Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director BVICAM. Mrs. Tanya Pathak Garg, Assistant Professor, BVICAM coordinated the entire session.
