Computer Society of India & Consultants Affinity Group of IEEE Delhi Section in association with Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute’s of Computer Applications and Management, New Delhi organized an Invited Talk on a very hot topic- Big Data- Hype and Reality on 1^st Sep 2016, at BVICAM Campus. The speaker of the talk was Dr. C. Mohan, IBM Fellow, IBM Almaden Research Center, USA.

In his talk he enlightened the audience with the current developments in Big Data and tried to distill hype from reality. He discussed how these developments were initially triggered by web companies. He also explored how the clear set of distinctions between Big Data Systems and Traditional DBMS have been blurred in past few years as the need of users and developers have come into sharper focus. Further he threw light on various emerging technologies that handle Big Data like Hadoop Map-Reduce, Apache Spark, IBM Cloudera etc.

This talk has been given (with revisions) in various countries, especially as keynotes at the conferences BIRTE 2014, BDA 2014, BTW 2015, SEBD 2015, IEEE IRI 2015 and BDA EdCon Europe 2015.

The talk was attended by members of CSI, Faculty and staff of BVICAM. Also present were Dr. Grover, Professor Delhi University and Mr. Shiv Kumar, RVP CSI R-I & Div-I. Prof. MN Hoda, Director, BVCIAM felicitated the speaker with a momento. Dr. Anupam Baliyan, Associate Professor and Ms. Tanya Pathak, Assistant Professor, BVICAM coordinated the entire session and ended it with vote of thanks.
